Through the constraints of a modular typeface, comes out a bubbly/funky modular typeface called Crabstick. Both the uppercase and lowercase letters of Crabstick were designed using only 2 shapes: squares and quarter circles. The combination created a beautiful and unique effect to the letterforms, forming a crustacean-like characteristic to it.
The constraints of a modular 2-shape typeface set on a square grid, actually created interesting letterform combinations. The rigidness of a square and the fluidness of a quarter circle created both technical and flirty effect.
